As Communications Manager, Joyce Li looks for innovative and strategic ways to amplify the Vilcek Foundation’s mission in the mainstream, raising awareness of immigrant contributions through the creation of infographics, newsletters, and other media.
She supports staff in promoting the foundation’s various programs, assists the executive staff in shaping the organization’s public presence, and manages relationships with grantees. Ms. Li first joined the foundation in 2009 and worked with the Vilcek Prizes and related projects, such as the publication of American Odysseys: Writings by New Americans, until assuming her current position in 2013.
Ms. Li gained her understanding of how to promote ideas as well as events from working in the book publishing industry, after completing the Columbia Publishing Course. As a former editor for Baristanet, one of the first hyperlocal news blogs, she learned to experiment with new methods of connecting with audiences.
Ms. Li credits her upbringing by foreign-born parents for giving her deeper insight into the immigrant experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing and politics from Bard College, and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Brooklyn College.
