As Communications Manager, Joyce Li supports the staff in promoting the Vilcek Foundation’s programs and assists the Executive Director in shaping the Foundation’s public presence. She also manages relationships with grantees, produces the newsletters, and collaborates on website and social media initiatives. Ms. Li first joined the Foundation in 2009 and worked closely with the Vilcek Prizes and related projects, such as the publication of the American Odysseys: Writings by New Americans anthology, until assuming her current position in 2013.
Ms. Li gained her understanding of how to promote ideas as well as events from working in the book publishing industry. As a former editor for Baristanet.com, one of the first hyperlocal news blogs, she learned how new media can change the way organizations connect with and serve their clients.
Ms. Li credits both her upbringing by immigrant parents and her volunteer service abroad with giving her deeper insight into the immigrant experience. She graduated from Bard College with degrees in Creative Writing and Politics, and completed the post-graduate Columbia Publishing Course. Currently, Ms. Li is working towards a MFA in Creative Writing at Brooklyn College.
