About the Collection

The Foundation has acquired a small but growing collection of art objects created by foreign-born artists living and working in the U.S. Our goal is to celebrate the contributions of foreign-born artists to this country. Artists whose work was exhibited by or who were awarded prizes by The Vilcek Foundation have created most of the art objects in the Collection. Ryo Toyonaga (b Japan, 1960), whose 2009 exhibition “Ryo Toyonaga: Mephistophelean” was one of the first exhibitions held at the Foundation, is represented by several works. A sculpture by Christo (b Bulgaria, 1935) is a promised gift of Jan T. and Marica Vilcek to The Vilcek Foundation. Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude (b in Morocco to French parents, 1935; d New York, 2009) received the first Vilcek Prize in the Arts and Humanities in 2006.
